anxiety breathing obsession
do i need a phyciatrist?
i have an obsession about lungs and keep thinking i am not breathing properly and that i have lung problems although i have no symptoms appart from palpitations as i have a long history of anxiety and also have graves disease-overactive thyroid,i dont get breathless but its since my mum died of lung disease at a young age i have been like this.she had a scarred lung from young age through infection and then asthma then emphysema,i have no history of chest problems so why do i think this way?
My suggestion is, and being in your position is, talk to my Doctor about it and tell him you would like to talk to a psychiatrist. The scars on your moms lungs from when she was younger may have been from a pneumonia. I have asthma wicked. I wish I could talk to you because I went through hell being scared and all that. Now I’m okay because I talked about it with a professional. You say your mom had emphysema, that’s caused from smoking. If you smoke, quit, take care of your body, eat right exercise, do what the Doc’s tell you to do, and they can get you on the right med’s for your anxiety……. Good luck

Since there is a lot of misunderstanding in regards to panic attacks, I’d like to start by asking you a few simple questions. Have you ever ended up in ER because you thought you were having a heart attack, and after they check you out they told you it was an anxiety attack? Maybe you have thoughts that your breathing will stop because your chest feels tight? Have you ever taken a drive and been pressed down with the fear that you’ll get stuck in traffic on top of a bridge (or under one)? Ever thought you were going to lose control and go crazy? Do you find yourself getting on edge and feeling nervous in situations that used to have no effect on you? If you experience any of these feelings, you could be suffering from anxiety.
